Rawhead Rex

In the story 'Rawhead Rex' Clive Barker describes in great detail how the 10ft creature has these big detractable teeth and how he easily just bites peoples heads off. So I wanted to focus on the creatures mouth for this image.
This is just a quick sketch for the image idea.
The whole time I was reading this story the image of Goyas painting of Saturn kepted poppong in my head so I think this had a lot of influence on my image.

This is my first attempt at the image.

The image went through quite a few changes.

But I think this one is nearly finished ?

Things are starting to move.

Starting to really make some exciting images now.
I have been enjoying seeing some final images start to take shape after what feels like forever since the start of this final project.
To start with I have finished this collage piece for the short story 'New Murders in the Rue Morgue'.
It's come on a lot since the earlier drawings which can be seen in my earlier blogs.
This image was made using charcoal, collage and paint.

For this image I looked at stills from the films ,Voyage To The Moon and Starts, by George Melies
and The Elephant Man by Dvid Lynch. I thought these would be good places to look for inspiration for the image becaouse they where all set in the Early 1900's.

Yattering

My character development for the 'Yattering and Jake'.
Don't think he looks demonic enough though in any of these!? Hmmmmmmm.

New Murders in the Rue Morgue.

Today I have been reading the short story 'New Murders in the Rue Morgue'.

I have wanted to focus on the gorilla in the story and how it's set on a snowy day in Paris.
This has resulted in me getting to grips with trying to draw a gorilla.
Now just have to try and make him look like a gorilla trying to be a man!

Oldder Work

Thought I would put up some of my work from last year .
So you can get a look at what my work can look like once finished.
These first two are probably my favourites and they seem to be the images I had the most good feed back from.

Book of Blood

More sketches I have been working on today .
This one is for the prologue to the Book of Blood books.
I think this idea will look great using lino print?
So will hopefully have a go at that this week.

I am quite inspire by this image for this story. It was created by artist/photographer Marc Jaytin.
He created the image by actually carving the word art into his leg using a razor blade.
Very controversial but equally inspiring.
I will not go and engrave the story's into my skin for this image but I want it to look like it or have a hint of it.

Paper Cut

More ideas from the story 'In The Hills, The Cities'.

This is just a quick mock up of my idea with the people giant I want to do with paper cut. Don't know if I should use the same body shapes inside the giant or make them all different.?

In The Hills, The Cities

This is a very quick idea for the short story 'In The Hills, The Cities'.

For this idea for the image I was quite influenced by the Milanese artist Arcimboldo
and his images of  faces made up of fruit.

I also have some ideas for this image involving paper cuts so this image is to be continued.
